Can't install

How to resolve installations blocked by antivirus quarantine on Windows or security settings on Mac.

Your computer's own antivirus or security settings can block an installer or updater from downloading, opening, or completing, whether you're installing something new or updating a product you already have. This applies to:

  • Arcade

  • Co-Producer

  • Creator

  • Output FX (subscription and perpetual): Portal, Thermal, Movement

  • FX Expansions (perpetual only): Chaos, Ignition, Beyond 4/4, Current, Spacetime

This doesn't cover Kontakt-based instruments, or errors specific to using Output Hub or Native Access to download, unpack, and install them.

On Windows, your antivirus might quarantine the installer file before you can download or run it. On Mac, your security settings might block the installer from opening or completing after you've downloaded and run it.

Before you start

  • Confirm your computer meets your product's system requirements

  • Make sure you're signed in as an administrator on your computer

  • Quit your DAW before installing or updating

  • We recommend installing to the default location the installer suggests

Windows

If your antivirus blocks the installer download, check whether it's been quarantined. On Windows Defender:

  1. Open Windows Security

  2. Click Virus & threat protection

  3. Click Protection history

  4. Find the blocked installer and select Allow or Restore

If you're using a third-party antivirus instead (Norton, McAfee, Avast, and similar), check its quarantine or protection history section the same way.

macOS

If you try to open the installer and see "[Product]" cannot be opened because the developer cannot be verified, or you get to the end of installation and see The installation failed, your Mac's security settings are blocking it.

  1. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Security and make sure App Store and Identified Developers is enabled

  2. Go to Files and Folders, expand the Installer field, and enable the Downloads folder if it isn't already

If none of the above works, delete any old or incomplete installer files from your Downloads folder, restart your computer, and download a fresh copy
