This guide provides an alternative installation method for Output Expansions for users who may encounter issues with Output Hub or prefer a different approach. While we recommend using Output Hub for an optimal experience, this alternative method is useful for those who have installed FX directly from the website or instruments via Native Access.
Installing FX Expansions without Output Hub

- Navigate to "Updates and Installers"
- Locate and click on the FX Expansion Pack name
- Click on "Install Locally"
- Click on the button relevant to your operating system to download the installer
- Run the installer for your FX Expansion(s)
Make sure you select the default location on your system drive - Restart your computer and enjoy!
Installing Instrument Expansions without Output Hub
- Log in to your Output account at account.output.com
- Navigate to "Updates and Installers," scroll down, and click "Install Instrument Expansions"
- When the "How would you like to Install Expansions" dialog box appears, select the "Install Locally" option and follow the on-screen instructions
Step 1 will be displayed and ask you to download the Output Unarchiver tool for your operating system (Mac or Windows). Please download the correct one for you and afterward select "Continue to Step 2".
Step 2 will ask you to download your expansions, we will be downloading "Indie Vocals" on a Mac for this example. After selecting the desired Expansion Pack, click Download Expansions and Continue to Step 3.
Please note, it states to NOT UNZIP after downloading the expansion.
Step 3 will then ask you to carefully place the zip file you downloaded into the containing folder for your engine and then open the Output Unarchiver.
- As stated, please locate your Instrument folder. If you used Native Access to download and install your Instrument and did not set up a custom file path, the default file path is set to
-
Mac:
Macintosh HD > Users > Shared
-
Windows:
C: > Users > Public > Public Documents
-
Mac:
-
In the "Shared" or "Public Documents" folder, you should see your installed Instrument folder(s) and the zipped expansion file.
Please place the zipped expansion file in this "Shared" or "Public Documents folder and NOT in the "Exhale" folder (the "Shared" or "Public Documents folder is the containing folder of your Instrument Engine) -
Afterward, please open the "Output Unarchiver" and select "Locate Folder".
Locate the "Shared" or "Public Documents" folder (as the containing folder). The Output Unarchiver will then unzip the zipped expansion file and place everything where it needs to go. -
Lastly, open Kontakt in standalone mode and load your engine to run a SCAN. You should then see your expansion presets to load!
- If you are not sure how to do this, please refer to How To Scan For Expansion Pack Presets
Additional Notes:
- For users on Safari, disable auto-unzip in preferences.
