Plugin Formats Explained

Arcade is delivered in multiple file formats. These include plug-in files, and the standalone application file specific to your operating system.

Plug-In Formats:

VST: VST stands for Virtual Studio Technology. It's a standard plug-in format available on both MacOS and Windows.

VST3: An improvement over VST, VST3 has a distinct advantage in that it only uses processing power when an audio signal is present. This saves a considerable amount of CPU capacity and we highly recommend using VST3 in place of VST whenever possible.

AU: Audio Units are a Mac-only plug-in format, which is the Apple-equivalent of VST. While MacOS supports VST/VST3, Windows does not support AU.

AAX: Avid Audio eXtension is a filetype specific to Avid's Pro Tools DAW. This is the only plug-in format supported in Pro Tools, but it is supported on both MacOS and Windows

Standalone Applications

In addition to the filetypes mentioned above, Arcade is also delivered as a standalone application which can be opened without use of a DAW.

  • MacOS: Arcade.app
  • Windows: Arcade.exe
