Effects

Updated over 2 weeks ago

The EFFECTS section of THERMAL is made up of two EFFECTS that run in series after the Stage Processor.

There are 9 possible EFFECTS to choose from:

Bit Reducer

Reduces resolution for digital degradation.

  • Bits: sets bit depth reduction.

  • Redux: sets downsampling amount.

Chorus

Thickens sound by doubling the input signal and modulating the pitch. Can widen the stereo image.

  • Rate: sets modulation speed in Hz.

  • Depth: sets modulation strength.

  • Width: controls stereo spread.

  • Feedback: sets amount of signal fed back into the effect.

Compressor

Controls dynamic range by reducing peaks and raising quieter signals.

  • Threshold: sets level where compression begins.

  • Ratio: sets strength of compression.

  • Attack: sets onset time.

  • Release: sets recovery time.

  • Gain: adjusts overall output.

  • GR Meter: displays gain reduction in real time.

Stereo Delay

Adds echoes with flexible timing and filtering.

  • Time: sets delay length (syncs to host or runs free).

  • Feedback: sets number of repeats.

  • HP/LP: high-pass and low-pass filters on the delay output.

  • Stereo/Ping Pong: toggles between standard stereo or bouncing channels.

  • Sync: switches between host-synced and free delay time.

Filter

Shapes tone using resonant filtering.

  • Cutoff: sets frequency.

  • Resonance: emphasizes cutoff frequency.

  • Drive: adds saturation.

  • Env Follower: modulates cutoff based on input dynamics.

  • Modes: LP12, LP24 (low-pass), HP12, HP24 (high-pass).

Flanger

Creates sweeping, comb-filtered textures.

  • Time: sets delay offset.

  • Feedback: increases resonance.

  • Freq Mod: modulates delay frequency.

  • Mod Range: sets modulation depth.

  • Vintage/Modern: toggles between analog-style character and precise digital sound.

Frequency Shifter

Shifts frequencies up or down for unique textures.

  • Frequency: sets shift amount.

  • Offset: balances between upward and downward shifts.

Phaser

Applies phase cancellations for motion and depth.

  • Stages: sets number of filter stages (Multi mode only).

  • Feedback: increases intensity.

  • Freq: sets center frequency (Multi mode only).

  • Freq Mod: modulates phaser frequency (Multi mode only).

  • Mod Rate: sets modulation speed.

  • Modes: Multi (adjustable parameters) or Barber (infinite rising/falling effect, disables Stages/Freq/Freq Mod).

Reverb

Simulates space and reflections for depth and atmosphere.

  • Size: sets perceived room size.

  • Damping: reduces high-frequency reflections.

  • Width: adjusts stereo spread.

  • Freeze: holds the reverb tail indefinitely.
